From passion to purpose: My students’ success stories - Part 1
Share
When I first started Chalk Valley Soaps, I had no idea where it would lead me. Teaching soap making wasn’t something I ever planned for—it just happened. And it turned out to be the greatest passion. Watching others learn, grow, and thrive in their own soap-making journeys has been nothing short of magical. I genuinely believe teaching is a privilege, and every single student who walks through my door is a gift.
Over the years, I’ve had the honour of welcoming so many beautiful souls into my studio, each bringing their unique dreams and aspirations. Their trust in me—to guide them, to share knowledge, and to help them build something truly meaningful—has been one of the most fulfilling aspects of my journey.
Every student has their own unique story, and today, I’m delighted to share the first in what I hope will be many student success stories. Adriana’s journey is an inspiring one, and I couldn’t be more proud to have been part of it.
"I used to work in children’s photography, but when the pandemic hit and events stopped completely, I found myself wondering what to do next. That’s when natural soap-making caught my attention. I took a few online courses and started making soaps for personal use. Seeing the incredible benefits they had on my and my family’s skin, I felt inspired to share these benefits with others. That’s when the idea of turning it into a business was born—a business that’s not only good for people but also gentle on the environment.
In 2022, my family and I spent some time in England. As a long-time admirer of Helga from Chalk Valley Soaps, I couldn’t miss the chance to connect with someone who has been such an inspiration to me. Amazingly, it worked out! Helga is a truly wonderful person—patient (even with my less-than-perfect English!), knowledgeable, and kind. She welcomed my daughter Julia and me into her studio for a day we’ll never forget. It was a turning point for my business. I gained confidence, wisdom, and the most remarkable experience of seeing someone I admire working with such passion and care.
In the next five years, I plan growing my business into a recognized brand that represents wellness, creativity, and sustainability.
I aim to transform my packaging to be 100% eco-friendly, explore partnerships with local artisans, and connect myself with people from all around the world, including customers who value self-care and embrace the "green living".”
Adri’s story is a perfect example of the joy and purpose I find in teaching soap making. It’s not just about learning a skill—it’s about transformation. Whether it’s building a new business or simply gaining confidence in your craft, there’s something truly special about watching students take what they’ve learned and turn it into something uniquely their own.
For those of you in South America, this story holds an extra special connection. Adri is originally from Brazil, and while Chalk Valley Soaps can’t deliver there, you can still experience the amazing soaps Adri creates. She’s applied everything she learned in my studio to her business, and her products reflect the same care and passion we value so much here. If you’d like to support her, I encourage you to check out her website and Instagram for her beautiful creations.
Although our in-person courses are on pause until the end of next year while we move to a new studio, I’m thrilled to offer an incredible alternative—our brand new online course that is now available for pre-order. These go into even greater depth than we could ever cover in a single day in the studio, offering you the opportunity to learn at your own pace from the comfort of your own home.
Whether you’re just starting out or looking to refine your skills, these courses are packed with invaluable lessons, practical techniques, and the inspiration you need to turn your soap-making dreams into reality. I’d love for you to be part of this growing community of creative soap makers.
