I’m Helga, founder and soap maker behind Chalke Valley Soaps.
I started Chalke Valley Soaps in 2020, but soap making has been part of my family for generations, with both my grandmother and great-grandmother making soap using traditional methods.
Everything I teach comes from real experience: years of formulating, testing, making and selling natural soap, developing products and learning what works, as well as what doesn’t.

Is this course suitable for complete beginners?
Absolutely. You don't need any previous soap-making experience. The course starts with the foundations and gradually takes you through natural cold process soap making, formulation and more advanced techniques.
I already make soap. Is this course still for me?
Yes. Many of my students were already making soap before joining. The course goes much further into natural ingredients, formulation, essential oils, troubleshooting, scaling and professional techniques, helping you deepen your knowledge and improve the soaps you already make.
Will I learn how to formulate my own soap recipes?
Yes. Alongside our tried and tested signature recipes that you can use straight away, formulation is an important part of the course. You'll learn how oils, butters, liquids and other ingredients work together, how to calculate and adjust formulas, and how to create your own balanced soap recipes from scratch.
Do you use natural ingredients throughout the course?
Yes. My approach focuses on natural soap making using plant oils and butters, essential oils, botanicals, clays and other naturally derived ingredients rather than synthetic fragrances and artificial colours.
