The Online Botanical Soap Making Course

Learn the true art of natural soapmaking

There is something incredibly rewarding about creating beautiful, natural soap from scratch.

Whether you dream of making soap for yourself and your family, creating thoughtful handmade gifts, or eventually building your own soap business, learning the craft properly from the beginning can save years of frustration, wasted ingredients, and costly mistakes.

The Botanical Soap-Making Course was created to provide a complete and honest education in natural cold process soapmaking. It combines traditional techniques, modern formulation knowledge, natural ingredients, and real-world experience gathered through years of professional soapmaking.

This is not a quick overview or a collection of random recipes. It is a comprehensive step-by-step programme designed to help you understand not only how to make soap, but why each ingredient, technique, and decision matters.

What makes botanical soap different?

Many commercial soaps contain synthetic fragrances, artificial colourants, harsh detergents, and unnecessary additives.

Botanical soapmaking takes a different approach.

It focuses on natural ingredients, plant-based oils, botanicals, clays, essential oils, herbs, flowers, and carefully selected additives that serve a purpose within the recipe.

Botanical soapmaking is about creating products that are beautiful, functional, and inspired by nature.

Students learn how to work with ingredients such as:

  • Essential oils
  • Clays
  • Herbs and flowers
  • Natural exfoliants
  • Plant-based colourants
  • Botanical infusions
  • Natural butters and oils

Most importantly, students learn how these ingredients behave in soap and how to use them successfully.

Why learn from Chalke Valley Soaps?

The course is taught by Helga Horvath, founder of Chalke Valley Soaps.

Since launching in 2020, Chalke Valley Soaps has become known for its commitment to natural ingredients, essential oils, botanical design, and traditional soapmaking methods. Although the business was founded in 2020, my soapmaking roots go back much further, inspired by both my grandmother and great-grandmother, who made their own soaps using traditional methods.

Every lesson is based on real-world experience.

Students benefit not only from the successes, but also from the lessons learned through years of experimentation, testing, product development, compliance, manufacturing, photography, and working with customers.

The goal is simple:

To openly share everything that has been learned along the journey.

No gatekeeping.
No hidden secrets.
No deliberately missing steps.

Just honest education designed to help students become confident soapmakers.

More than just recipes

Many soapmaking resources focus on following recipes.

Recipes are valuable, but true confidence comes from understanding the principles behind them.

This course teaches students how to think like formulators rather than simply copy formulas.

Once these skills are understood, students gain the confidence to create their own unique products and make informed decisions about ingredients and design.

Learn at your own pace

The course is delivered online, allowing students to learn whenever it suits them.

Lessons can be revisited as many times as needed, making it easy to progress at a comfortable pace. Premium students receive 12 months of access to the course, while Premium Plus students enjoy lifetime access, allowing them to return to the lessons whenever they wish.

Whether you prefer to learn slowly over several months or immerse yourself fully, the course is designed to support both approaches.
